Week of January 18

Author of the month: Jan Brett

Focus for the week ~

Bible: "In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." (Bible verse memory game with Quail balloon)

Phonics & Handwriting: Letter Qq - Words that begin with Qq

Literature: "Town Mouse Country Mouse"

Journal: What I would have people wear if I were Queen or King for a day

Math: Penny, Dime, Counting by 10s, Paying for items with dimes, writing 10 cent increments

Centers: Qq handwriting, Qq book, Q bean bag toss, Quiet game, Quail balloon toss, lacing Q letters and objects, reading

HOMEWORK: I sent home a copy of our "Classroom Rules." Please go over with your child and then cut the text sentences apart from their matching picture. Play a game with your child where they match the rules with the pictures.

NEW Fun Feature: Every week we have jobs for each of the students (listed in the right column of this blog). On Thursdays, the Librarian for the week will take home our "ABC tub" to bring in a show-and-tell item on Mondays to introduce the letter for the following week. This week, our Librarian was Jenna Beth so she will be bringing in an item that starts with the letter Uu. The kids will take turns guessing what she brought in.

Also, I would like to feature this individual by having them bring in an 8.5" x 11" sheet with "All about me" info that they can share with the class. I would love to have one star student a week who brings in an "ABC tub" item and keep all other toys from home at home.

Creative Movement (Tuesday)

Explorer Zone (Thursday): Making snow in sunny 70 degree weather

Spanish (Tuesday & Thursday)

Reinforcement ideas for home:
1. Talk about items that start with the letter Qq
2. Review Qq and other bible verses
3. Talk about using Quiet voices (and following rules) at school and home
4. Practice counting by tens using dimes
